MPs Jacob Rees-Mogg and Liz Truss have been spotted at a popular North East coffee spot by local residents.

Those that grabbed their usual weekend latte or americano at Blacksmiths Coffee Shop at the Milkhope Centre, Blagdon, might have seen the politicians pull up outside the venue this morning.

The pair were seen at around 11.45am with a group of other people in the car park of the coffee shop - with regulars of Blacksmiths walking by the group.

It's unknown what the Conservative MPs were doing in the region, with Mr Rees-Mogg representing the North East Somerset constituency, while Mrs Truss represents the south west Norfolk constituency.

Despite the two of them appearing at the coffee shop, they remained outside in the car park area while it rained and got several hot drinks for their group.

Earlier this week, Mr Rees-Mogg accused Prime Minister Rishi Sunak of imitating Theresa May’s doomed Brexit strategy as Tory Eurosceptics were urged to allow the “time and space” needed to fix the Northern Ireland Protocol.

The prominent Brexiteer questioned why “so much political capital” was being spent on brokering a new deal without ensuring the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) and his wing of the Conservative Party were on board.

Meanwhile, Liz Truss was formally re-selected by the South West Norfolk Conservative Association as their candidate for the next general election earlier this week.

After a meeting of party members in Swaffham, the former prime minister said she was “delighted” to have been chosen to fight a fifth campaign in the constituency.

“Thanks to my local association for their ongoing support and I look forward in due course to us fighting a fifth general election together,” she tweeted.
