A woman has been arrested and a man hospitalised after a police cordon appeared outside a takeaway pizza restaurant on Thursday (February 23) morning.

Police and ambulance crews rushed to the scene of the incident in Sunderland shortly before 10am.

A police cordon was erected outside of the Pizza Hot takeaway restaurant, in the King Henry Court area of Sunderland.

A 23-year-old man was taken to hospital by paramedics for treatment. A 35-year-old woman remains in police custody having been arrested in connection with the incident.

The man is set to be discharged from hospital.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: “Shortly before 9.55am today (Thursday), we were alerted by the ambulance service to an injured male in the King Henry Court area of Sunderland.

“Emergency crews attended and a 23-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment but is set to be discharged.

“A 35-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with the incident and remains in police custody at this time.”

A North East Ambulance Service statement added: “We were called at 9.49am this morning to a person injured in the King Henry Court area of Sunderland.

“We sent one emergency ambulance and one Hazardous Area Response Team vehicle. One patient was transported to hospital.”
