Passengers on trains travelling between York and Edinburgh are facing travel chaos on Monday (February 20) after major signalling issues on the East Coast Mainline.

On Monday, LNER reported that there was a fault with the signalling system in Morpeth and all lines were blocked.

As a result, users travelling from London, Doncaster, Newcastle, York and Northallerton have faced cancelled or severely delayed trains.

In a statement, LNER said: "Due to a fault with the signalling system at Morpeth all lines are blocked. Train services running through this station may be cancelled or delayed. Please check service updates."

This comes after another LNER issue that saw more trains than usual needing repairs at the same time at 7am on Monday - which saw the London Kings Cross to Edinburgh service due 11.20am starting from Newcastle.

This saw trains not call at Darlington, York, or Peterborough.
