A DISPLAY of sweet-toothed culinary skills has helped raise funds for a North-East village hall.
The annual ‘Pudding Club’ competition was held this afternoon in Hurworth and was won by Brenda Jackson with a traditional rhubarb crumble.
Julie Kirby was runner-up with a biscoff cheesecake, and Elaine Taylor came third with a raspberry cheesecake.
Villagers paid a £5 entry fee and, in return, they had the opportunity to sample six puddings of their choice, without knowing who had made them, and mark them out of ten.
Village Hall booking secretary Bill Drumm said: “All the proceeds go towards the running costs of the village hall and it’s a low-cost event because everyone else provides the catering!
“It was a great turnout and we had 24 puddings entered, with a very high standard on show. Sadly, I was robbed yet again – this time with a deconstructed cherry cheesecake. It looked good but obviously wasn’t to everyone’s taste!”
