A drug dealer has been jailed after being caught with more than £88,000 of heroin, crystal meth and cocaine in his car and at a city apartment.

Sabbi Miah was spotted driving near Whitley Bay Ice Rink by traffic police in November and was detained, later, on Roker Avenue, Sunderland, after trying to run away from officers.

The 23-year-old was taken into custody while his car was searched, leading to the recovery of £2,800 in cash, a quantity of cocaine in the door and an apartment key.

The Northern Echo:

When officers traced the apartment in Newcastle, they carried out a search which led to the recovery of quantities of heroin, crystal meth, ketamine and cannabis worth an estimated £88,720.

Officers sought to ensure Miah of Kingsley Terrace, Newcastle, was charged and remanded prior to court proceedings.

The defendant made guilty pleas to possession with intent to supply MDMA (ecstasy), cocaine, heroin, cannabis and ketamine, plus acquiring criminal property (the money), at Newcastle Crown Court on December 20.

He appeared back at the same court on Monday (February 13), when he received a total sentence of 49 months (four years and one month).

Welcoming the outcome of the inquiry and case, Detective Inspector Jason Henry, from Northumbria Police, said: “This is great result for our communities, who tell us about the harm caused by organised criminals operating in their areas. The Northern Echo:

“Miah’s arrest was the result of officers from across the force working together as part of Operation Sentinel, our dedicated activity into tackling serious and organised crime and drug supply.

“As part of the investigation into Miah, we seized and destroyed a large quantity of Class A, B and C drugs which will now never make it on to the streets or be able to line the pockets of dealers.
