A driver has been banned from driving for six months and fined over £120 after police caught him red-handed on his mobile phone while driving his car.

Francisco Dumitru, 27, of Palmer Street, Middlesbrough, appeared at Cleveland Magistrates' Court on February 2 - changed in connection with driving while on his mobile phone.

According to court documents, police officers caught Dumitru driving his VW Golf on Palmer Street on May 25 last year. 

In court, he was fined £60, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £34, and had to pay costs of £34 - with costs totalling £128. 

Dumitru was also banned from driving for six months, due to repeat offending.
