A PRIMARY school has staged a ‘Number Day’ to make maths fun and raise money for a good cause at the same.
Skerne Park Academy, in Darlington, held the event as part of its work with ‘Times Tables Rock Stars’ – a software programme designed to help children with multiplication and division.
The day, organised by teacher Jo Beaton, featured a range of maths-related activities, with numbers everywhere.
And to add to the fun atmosphere, pupils were encouraged to come to school in fancy dress, depicting rock stars or numbers, with a collection being held for the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC).
Headteacher Clair Gooding said: “It’s been lovely to see the children entering into the spirit of Number Day, which is a fantastic way to make maths fun. Thank you also to the parents and carers for helping with the fancy dress and providing plenty of colour!”
Teacher Ruth Howard, who played her part by wearing a shocking pink rock star’s wig, said: “There’s been a really enthusiastic response to the day, with the children enjoying dressing up, and taking part in games and activities that make maths more engaging.”
