Two-in-one burglaries overnight across Redcar and Cleveland have led to police reminding residents to lock their doors.

This type of burglary is where suspects enter or break into an address and take car keys so they can steal the householder’s vehicle.

Sometimes other items from the property are also taken and transported away in the stolen vehicle.

Cleveland Police received numerous reports overnight from across the area and detectives from Redcar CID are investigating the following:

  • Briggs Avenue in South Bank, vehicle stolen between 8pm Monday night and 7am today (Tuesday, January 31) Crime Ref 018869.

The incidents involved the thieves gaining access via insecure doors and taking keys from coat pockets.

While no arrests have currently been made, officers are following up a number of lines of enquiry and we would remind all residents to lock all doors to their property, especially overnight, and to keep vehicle keys out of sight and out of reach.

Police would also appeal for anyone with information/dashcam/doorbell or CCTV footage to contact Cleveland Police on 101 quoting the relevant crime reference number for that incident.
