A man has been charged in connection with an incident which left a 28-year-old with serious knife wounds on Sunday (January 29) night.

Officers were called to an address on Shearwater Avenue in Darlington, shortly before midnight on Sunday following reports that a man had been injured.

A 28-year-old man was taken to hospital having suffered knife wounds. His injuries are serious but not thought to be life-threatening.

Another man, 49, was arrested at the scene and has since been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon.

The man has been remanded in custody to appear at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates Court on Tuesday (January 31) morning.

Officers remained at the scene on Shearwater Avenue on Monday (January 30) morning with two police vans in attendance.

A spokesperson for Durham Police added: “A 49-year-old man was arrested at the scene in connection with the incident.

“He has since been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon.

“He has been remanded in custody to appear at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court this morning.”
