Lewis Capaldi wowed fans in Newcastle on Saturday (January 21) night - fuelled on Greggs sausage rolls.

The Scottish singer-songwriter came to Newcastle’s Utilita Arena for one night only on Saturday, and was surprised with a special gift from Greggs.

The Newcastle-brand surprised him with a yard-long box, emblazoned with the words ‘Roll on the celebrations’ in gold and filled with 17 Greggs’ sausage rolls.

A Greggs spokesperson said: “As a well-known Greggs fan, there was no better time to surprise the star with this pre-show snack than in the brand’s hometown.”

Capaldi took to Instagram to share his present, commenting “Love ya (sic) @Greggs_Official”.

The Hold Me While You Wait singer is no stranger to a Greggs, and previously turned up behind the counter in one of the brand’s Middlesbrough stores ahead of Radio 1’s Big Weekend in 2019.

He donned full Greggs uniform, including a hairnet, while claiming to be on work experience, much to the delight of fans.

Earlier this week Capaldi shocked staff at The Waterfront fish and chip restaurant in North Shields when he turned up for a chippy tea.

The star posed for photos with the chippy’s staff on Friday (January 20) while in the region for his Newcastle tour date.
