The North East is set to see up to three centimetres of snow next week according to the Met Office and a weather map.

Although much of this week will be unsettled, temperatures continue to be rather mild considering the time of year.

However, this doesn’t look set to last with temperatures predicted to plummet early next week with a risk of snow.

Much of this week will be windy and rainy with a risk of gales for some.

As the week progresses into the weekend temperatures are set to turn “colder” with showers turning wintery and the return of frosty nights and ice.

However, as we move into early next week on Monday, January 16, the outlook looks a lot more wintery.

The Met Office forecast reads: “On Monday, with cold air in place, showers are likely to be wintry across the north, even to low levels, with some wintriness in showers further south too.

It adds: “Further wet weather is likely, especially in the west, with perhaps a greater incidence of snow compared to what we've seen so far in January.”
