The wait is over as series three of His Dark Materials airs on the BBC this weekend. 

The HBO adaptation of Philip Pullman's fantasy trilogy is back on our screens after an agonising two-year wait.

The star-studded series follows Lyra Belaqua and her quest to find her friend and uncover the mystery of the invisible substance Dust as depicted in the books The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife, and The Amber Spyglass.

What time is His Dark Materials on TV?

The first episode of the new series of His Dark Materials will air on Sunday, December 18. 

Viewers can tune into the third and final series from 7 pm on BBC One. 

It will air after Countryfile and has a one-hour running time.

The second episode will air on Christmas Eve at 7 pm but if you can't wait, all eight episdoes will be available to stream on BBC iPlayer after the first show airs.

Series two recap of His Dark Materials

The multi-world reality series has had no shortage of twists and turns.

In the last series, Lyra followed Lord Asriel ( James McAvoy) through a mysterious portal to an abandoned city where she met a teenage boy named Will from our world.

Throughout the series, we discover that Will has a troubled past and that his fate is intertwined with Lyra's as well as reuniting with his father (Andrew Scott).

Meanwhile, Mrs Coulter (Ruth Wilson) continues to search for Lyra to bring her home in any way she can.
