Newcastle International Airport is celebrating the fact that 4 million passengers have travelled through the airport so far during 2022.

The 4 millionth passenger, Neisha from Newcastle, was travelling to Paris for a "girls' weekend" and was surprised with the gift of free return tickets to Paris from Newcastle Airport.

The airport expects it will have hosted 4.1 million travellers during 2022 by the end of this month, and it reflects a strong recovery following Covid-related travel restrictions and low confidence from travellers in general over the last few years.

Chris Ion, Aviation Development Manager at Newcastle International Airport, said: “We are pleased that we are in the position to celebrate our 4 millionth passenger this year, with over 4.1 million passengers expected to travel through the North East's largest Airport by the end of 2022. This milestone reflects the return of strong demand for international travel since restrictions were lifted.”

Neisha was flying via Air France to Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport, one of the airline's main hubs. This year the airline says they've taken more than 100,000 passengers between Newcastle and Paris's main airport.

Fahmi Mahjoub, Air France & KLM General Manager (UK and Ireland) said: “Newcastle International Airport holds a significant place in our UK network and allows us to connect the local community from the Tyneside area to Paris and the rest of the world. We are honoured to be able to support them in creating magical moments like this. Air France would like to congratulate the lucky winners and hope that they enjoy their trip in wonderful Paris.”
