A man has been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after being struck on a North East slip road this weekend.

Northumbria Police are appealing for witnesses to a traffic collision on the A19 northbound slip road at the junction with the A183 Chester Road in Sunderland, where a car struck a pedestrian.

The incident on Saturday (December 3) evening, which involved a black Citreon Berlingo, has left a 40-year-old man in hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Meanwhile, the driver of the car remained at the scene following the collision and is assisting officers with their enquiries.

In a statement today, a Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "At about 7.20pm on Saturday, December 3, on the A19 northbound slip road at the junction with the A183 Chester Road, a black Citroen Berlingo collided with a male pedestrian.

"The driver of the car remained at the scene following the collision and is assisting officers with their enquiries.

"The pedestrian, aged in his 40s, is currently in hospital with life-threatening injuries."

Additionally, police are now appealing to witnesses to come forward, especially those who might have dashcam footage of the incident.
