A house on a North East street has been closed and boarded up by police.

The property, found on Eastcroft Road in Grangetown was closed following a closure order granted by Teesside Magistrates Court.

Drug dealing and antisocial behaviour at the building had been reported to police over several months.

Eston Neighbourhood Officers and Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council worked together to gather evidence to present to the Magistrates Court yesterday (November 30).

The people living in the property were evicted and the house will now be closed for three months.

Temporary Inspector Ian Mitchell, said: “This closure is the result of a problem solving and proactive partnership between Eston Neighbourhood Police Team and Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council.

"Local residents have a right to feel safe in their own homes and I know this closure will bring a sense of relief to the local community.”

Mr Mitchell continued to stress that the drug dealing and antisocial behaviour at this address was “totally unacceptable.”

He added: “I have no doubt that the closure order is a great result for the community and will have a positive impact on the area.

“I would like to thank ASB officer Donna Lennox of Redcar Cleveland Borough Council for her instrumental role and the Neighbourhood Team for their hard work to achieve this closure.

“I hope that this will serve as a warning to people who cause misery in their community through drug dealing and antisocial behaviour, that they can lose their homes as a consequence of their actions.”
