Four men have been arrested after an attempted burglary that saw the group approach a County Durham home in balaclavas. 

Specialist officers from Durham Police have reported that the incident happened at around 10.4pm on Sunday (November 27) on Cockton Hill Road in Bishop Auckland.  

During the serious incident, it is believed a group of people, wearing balaclavas approached the address.

Nothing is thought to have been taken and nobody is believed to have been injured.

Four men aged 29, 27, 20 and 20 were later arrested in connection with the incident and have been released on bail.

A police spokeswoman said: “This was an isolated incident and there is no risk to the wider community.

“We believe there were several witnesses in the area at the time of the incident and we are really keen to speak to them.”

Since the incident, Durham Police have launched an investigation and are looking for information into the burglary. 

Officers would also like to speak to anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage of the Cockton Hill area.
