A Vera star has spoken of how the crew have ‘battled the elements’ to bring fans a ‘special’ new episode of the much-loved show.

The star revealed the news on Instagram accompanied by a selfie of him and leading lady Brenda Blethyn.

Many fans are eagerly awaiting the return of the popular show after a hiatus of episodes this year.

However, the Instagram post revealed that the first week of filming for episode 5 is “all done”.

The post read: “Happy weekend from us two.

“First week of filming for ep.5 all done. Amazing crew battling the elements. Much deserved restful weekends all round.”

Just last week fans of the show managed to catch a glimpse of filming for the new episodes in Durham.

Film crews were spotted across Durham on Tuesday as filming for a new series of the hit ITV show continued.

Vera’s iconic Land Rover was spotted at The Boat House bar and restaurant on the city’s riverside on Tuesday afternoon.

Earlier on vans were seen arriving as crews set up for filming, with prop vans and cameras being set up on Elvet Bridge.

Crews were then spotted near to the viaduct in the city later in the afternoon.

On Monday Brenda Blethyn’s co-star Kenny Doughty tweeted to confirm filming was once again underway for new episodes of the show.

He said: “We are back for another special episode of Vera. Day 1 in the bag… after a little break it’s been lovely to see everyone again. Old & New faces. Vera fans you’re in for a treat!”
