A SEA cadet volunteer was attacked in his office after an affair with a married colleague.

Scott McKelvie suffered a fracture to a bone in his face and needed an operation after he was pounced on by Steven Hunter, 35, and his nephew Brenton Hunter, 23.

Newcastle Crown Court heard how Mr McKelvie had been having a relationship with Steven Hunter's wife Tina.

Trouble flared when the Hunters confronted Mr McKelvie at the sea cadet centre on July 2 last year.

Prosecutor Alec Burns told the court how the violence spilled into the office where Mr McKelvie was punched, kicked and bitten.

The victim was taken to hospital where he was diagnosed with a fracture below his left eye.

He needed an operation and was suffering impaired vision and bruising.

The court heard Mr McKelvie told police he had broken off the relationship when he realised Mrs Hunter was a married woman.

Steven Hunter, of Jaques Street, Sunderland, and Brenton Hunter, of The Broadway, Sunderlnad admitted assault.

Defence barrister Jamie Adams said Steven Hunter had been with his wife for 20 years before the affair.

Mr Adams said: "He had not gone there to start trouble."

Nick Peacock, also defending, said Brenton Hunter became involved in the incident out of support for his uncle.

Mr Recorder Prosser sentenced both men to four months imprisonment, suspended for 12 months with supervision for 12 months.

He said the prison sentences could be suspended because of the guilty pleas, lack of previous convictions for violence, and the "domestic circumstances" surrounding the case.
