A man has admitted a string of thefts which occurred over the weekend in Darlington.

Jamie Marriott, 33, appeared at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, November 15, where he pleaded guilty to theft of a motor vehicle, vehicle interference, theft from a motor vehicle and no insurance.

The offences took place between Friday and Saturday where residents of Cardinal Gardens, Westbourne Grove, Milbank Court, and Dale Road were targeted.

Detective Sergeant Liam Robertson, from Darlington Volume Crime Team, said: “Crimes like this will not be tolerated in Darlington. Thanks to the combined efforts of our local response officers and detectives, Marriott was quickly arrested and is now facing potential jail time.

“If members of the public have information about this type of crime, they should contact us on 101 and they can be assured we will do all we can to bring the offenders to justice.

“I would also like to remind residents to remain vigilant as the winter nights set in. Our PCSOs will be offering advice on how to protect your property at a series of drop-in sessions."

Marriott has been charged with further offences of attempt burglary, burglary and driving whilst disqualified.

He pleaded not guilty to these offences and has been remanded into custody to appear at Peterlee Magistrates’ Court on Monday, December 19.
