Parts of a County Durham village are flooded due to the heavy rain last night and today, which has resulted in the Met Office issuing a yellow weather warning.

Mill Lane in Sherburn village is under water this afternoon (Thursday, November 17) and a resident was panicked when he realised the extent of the flooding.

Pictures reveal the dangerous road as of 12;30 this afternoon, and drivers are warned to avoid the area and find alternative routes.

Andrei Lespezeanu, a resident of Sherburn village, told The Northern Echo: “Today I was driving through Mill Lane in Sherburn Village while suddenly facing a major road flood after a sudden road bend, this is a 40mph speed limit road and drivers can't see that there is a flood due to the blind spot in the road.

“There are no markings to warn drivers of the condition of the road. When I was faced with the flood I felt my car aquaplaning right across it and I'm glad there was no incoming traffic through this flooded road surface. I have driven through Mill lane at 12:30pm.”
