A County Durham mum has appeared in court charged with the murder of her three-year-old son.

Christina Robinson appeared in front of Magistrates at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates' Court shortly after 2pm on Tuesday (November 15) afternoon charged with the murder of her son Dwelaniyah Robinson.

The 28-year-old of Bracken Court, Ushaw Moor also faced a charged of child neglect.

She appeared in the dock wearing a blue t-shirt and denim jacket as she was flanked by two security guards.

Robinson showed no emotion when she appeared in the dock as she spoke only to confirm her name, address, and date of birth.

No plea was entered at this stage and the case was sent to Newcastle Crown Court later this week.

Magistrate Suzanne Shivers, chairperson of the bench, remanded Robinson in custody until a bail hearing on Thursday, November 17 at 10am.

A further hearing will take place on December 13.

Emergency services were called to a property Bracken Court, Ushaw Moor, Durham on the afternoon of Saturday, November 5.

Three-year-old Dwelaniayah was taken by ambulance to the University Hospital of North Durham, but was tragically pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

The case was sent to Newcastle Crown Court for a bail hearing on Thursday (November 17) at 10am.

Durham Police said earlier on Tuesday that officers will remain at the scene on Bracken Court while enquiries are completed.
