Convenience stores across the North East have pledged to roll their prices back to 1966 rates so that everyone has a chance to celebrate the World Cup amid the cost of living crisis.

Spearheaded by the home delivery app Snappy Shoppe and local convenience stores have rolled back a number of their products to 1966 prices from Tuesday 15 to Thursday 17 November.

Football fans will be able to buy some of the nation's best-loved products at prices their 1966 prices - meaning that you can grab a share bag of Doritos for 7p (normal price £2.19), and Maynards Sports Mix for 5p (normally £1).

This scheme comes as many families tighten their belts ahead of Christmas. The participating businesses are hoping to help those that are having to "make money stretch, by easing the pressure and adding some celebration ahead of the tournament."

Both Snappy Shopper and participating retailers will pick up the cost of the promotion, while Snappy Shopper is also investing heavily in marketing to raise awareness and support local retailers.

The deal is the latest in a string of campaigns aimed at supporting local communities - which saw Snappy Shopper and local stores offering packed lunches for only 1p in September.

The three-day event will see big savings on these football-accompanying favourites:

  • Doritos 180g Share Bag: 7p (Normally £2.19)
  • Pepsi Max/ Coke Zero 2L: 8p (Normally £1.99)
  • Cadbury Share Bar: 6p (Normally £1.25)
  • Maynards Sports Mix: 5p (Normally £1)
  • Club Biscuits 6 pack: 6p (Normally £1.25)
