There is a big police presence at a North East address after a man was found dead in the early hours of Monday morning.

A police cordon has been erected outside a house on Dilston Road in Newcastle as police officers have been taking turns monitoring the area.

Northumbria Police said a man had been found dead after receiving reports of concern for the welfare of a man at around 6am.

A full investigation has since been launched with the death being treated as unexplained.

A spokesperson for the force: "Shortly after 6am today (Monday) we received a report of concern for the welfare of a man at an address on Dilston Road, Newcastle.

“Emergency services attended the scene and found a man who was deceased. His death is currently being treated as unexplained and a full investigation has been launched.

“An increased police presence is in the area as officers carry out enquiries.

The North East Ambulance Service confirmed their attendance with three vehicles sent to the scene.

They said "We were called to a police incident at a private address in the Arthur's Hill area of Newcastle at 6:03am this morning.

"We sent three emergency ambulances, one Hazardous Area Response Team and one doctor from the Great North Air Ambulance Service."
