Four people have been arrested after a stabbing outside a North East pub that saw a man rushed to the major trauma unit at Newcastle Hospital. 

Emergency services were called to the Raby Hotel on Shields Road in Byker, Newcastle, following reports of a 'serious incident' outside the venue at around 9.55pm on Saturday (November 12). 

According to reports, around ten emergency response vehicles attended the scene at the time - with paramedics and police officers racing to the hotel.

On Sunday (November 13), a police cordon has been erected on Shields Road and parts of Addison Street in Byker, with five police vehicles, including specialist forensic teams, have remained at the scene. 

Some businesses are also closed, due to the police cordon in place.

This morning, Northumbria Police has confirmed that a man in his 40s suffered serious injuries after he was stabbed on Shields Road. 

Four people, two men and two women, have been arrested in connection with the incident, and they remain in police custody at this time. 

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: “Shortly before 10pm yesterday (Saturday) we received a report of a disturbance in the Shields Road area of Byker.

“It was reported that a man in his 40s was assaulted and suffered serious injuries consistent with having been caused by a bladed article. He was taken to hospital where he remains.

“A full investigation has been launched into the incident. Two men, aged 49 and 29, have been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm and two women, aged 46 and 43, have been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent to commit grievous bodily harm.

“All four suspects remain in police custody., while officers remain in the area to carry out enquiries. Officers believe this to be an isolated incident and there is no wider risk to the public.

The North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) has confirmed that a person has been rushed to the major trauma unit in hospital following the incident. 

A spokesperson for NEAS said: "We received a call at 9.52pm on Saturday evening to reports of a person injured outside Raby Hotel on Shields Road in Byker, Newcastle.

"We sent a specialist paramedic, a Hazardous Area Response Team and an emergency ambulance crew and took the patient to a major trauma unit for further treatment."
