A date has been set for a new bargain supermarket to open in County Durham that is promising to ‘eclipse’ the price of other competitors across the North East.

With 160 stores already across the UK, The Food Warehouse has confirmed that it will be opening its newest shop in the North Durham Retail Park next Tuesday (November 15) at 8am.

Creating 26 jobs for the local community, the supermarket will offer fresh, frozen, and brands to customers from next week.

To celebrate the opening, the store has £1000 worth of vouchers to give away to the first 100 customers through the door, ready for them to spend in-store.

Additionally, customers entering the queue before 7.45am on the day of the opening will receive a raffle ticket, with the chance to win one of seven prizes, including two Tower 4L Air Fryers, three JML Household Essential Hampers and two Daewoo Wireless Bluetooth Fabric Speakers.

The first 200 customers through the checkouts will also receive a free bar of Cadbury Dairy Milk Chocolate (360g).

And for those feeling lucky, customers in the queue before 7.40am can take a guess at how many sweets are in a jar at the front of the store.

The customer with the exact or closest guess will win a brand-new hot tub spa worth £250.

If that already sounds completely bonkers – people arriving at the store before 7.30am on the opening day will be entered into a free prize draw where three winners will be chosen to take part in a 90-second trolley dash.

Ahead of the opening, a spokesperson for Food Warehouse said: “The Food Warehouse is continuously striving to offer great value and choice, and Durham customers will have the opportunity to shop the nation’s favourite brands spanning across frozen, chilled, fresh, and branded grocery lines, as well as a wide selection of homeware products too.

“Stocked along the frozen aisles will be a superb range of exclusive brands to The Food Warehouse (and sister store Iceland), including Greggs, TGI Friday’s, Slimming World, Barratts, Harry Ramsden’s, Del Monte, Chiquito and Cathedral City.

Launched just seven years ago, The Food Warehouse now has more than 160 stores across Britain and shows no sign of slowing down, with another store in Bishop Auckland also currently in the pipeline.

The Durham store opening hours will Monday to Saturday 8am-8pm and Sunday 10am-4pm.
