Residents in a block of flats got more than they bargained for after a delivery driver in DPD uniform used their private entrance as a toilet.

CCTV footage shows the moment the driver drops his trousers, before urinating in the entrance of the flats in Durham Road, Sunderland.

Furious residents hit out at the driver's "disgusting" behaviour, saying a young mother and her child even walked past as it was happening.

DPD has since said it is "appalled" at the pictures and has confirmed a full investigation has been launched.

The Northern Echo:

In the eye-opening footage, taken at around 9.30am on Monday, November 7, the driver is seen running into the entrance before urinating against the wall.

Just seconds later he is seen pulling up his trousers, tightening his belt and then running in the direction he came.

Speaking to The Northern Echo, disgusted residents said the action was "inexcusable," as they demanded the delivery firm takes action.

One resident, who asked to remain anonymous, recalled the CCTV from that morning after others in the building noticed a puddle of urine against the wall.

The Northern Echo:

He said: "He just comes into the entrance and undoes his belt and starts having a wee against the wall.

"There's even a woman with a child in her buggy who walk past. He then walks away and you can see he is doing his belt up."

Following the incident, residents disinfected the area with bleach in a bid to prevent smells from arising.

He added: "It is just disgusting, there are any amounts of places that they can nip into like McDonald's or Burger King - not someone's residential entrance.

"Even if he was off-duty, he is wearing their uniform and bringing the company into disrepute."

In response, DPD said it is "appalled" by the CCTV footage and said the matter is being investigated by its security team.

A spokesperson said: "We were appalled by the images and, as a result, launched an immediate and full-scale investigation.

"All we can confirm at the moment is that we had no operatives working in the area at that time and the investigation has been passed to our security team."
