Is your son or daughter in Year 11 and thinking about what to do next after GCSEs?
Because we’re going all interactive for our November open evening – meaning summer 2023 school leavers can try out the kinds of activities they would be doing on many of our courses and see how they enjoy them.
If they are considering a trade like building, joinery, painting and decorating or motor mechanics, they can have a go at building a brick wall, making basic joints, stencilling and diagnostics car maintenance at the interactive school leaver event.
How about teaching PE, coaching sport or becoming a sports therapist? We will have a sports coaching session delivered by our sports team where attendees can also talk to students on our Level 3 sport and physical activity diploma and BSc Sports Coaching degree.
Do they have a creative flair? If so, visitors can check out our art and design, music, performing arts and photography departments where they can try making clay pots, tour the recording studio or dark rooms and see dance workshops for this year’s panto and musicals.
If it is education/childcare or health and social care professions that are of most interest, our Early Years staff and students will be doing demos on ‘junk modelling’ and baby bathing.
And those intrigued by uniformed services can visit a mock crime scene and take part in a forensic science psychology activity.
Our new IT and Esports digital suites will be open for tours, where we will be talking about branding, marketing, enterprise and business and offering gaming demos.
Meanwhile students and staff will also be offering demos in our barbering, hairdressing and complementary therapies salons and nail art bureau and talking about our links with top salons, hotels and spas in the region.
And staff from our specialist High Needs curriculum area Aspire will be there too, inviting visitors to join in as they make Christmas decorations.
We will also be providing information on our new T Levels in Education & Care, Healthcare Science and Digital Design, starting next September.
Our specialising engineering training centre, South West Durham Training in Newton Aycliffe will be also be open for tours, careers information and a series of have a go interactive activities in engineering, electrical, plumbing and gas.
