RACING was halted in the HIQ British Touring Car Championship at Croft after a car struck a marshal.

The Honda Integra of Whitley Bay's Alan Taylor left the track in heavy rain and collided with stewards attending to an earlier incident.

The extent of injuries are not known, but the race was red-flagged.

It started once again, albeit reduced to eight laps, but once again was red-flagged after the atrocious conditions led to a spate of further accidents.

That led to Round 13 of the championship being declared a result with the drivers having only completed a handful of laps.

Team RAC's Colin Turkington was declared the winner with VX Racing's Matt Neal second and Team Halford's Gordon Shedden third.

A further two touring car races are scheduled for later this afternoon.

Racing began again around 2pm as the rain eased.
