A popular YouTuber visited Whitby’s best rated fish and chip restaurant in a recent video – here’s what he said.

‘Walk With Me Tim’ films travel flogs around the world on his popular YouTube channel currently sitting at 122,000 views.

But he also reviews fish and chip restaurants across the UK and this time he visited Whitby’s beloved Magpie Café.

The restaurant has raving reviews online and is currently sitting at four-and-a-half stars with 8,977 reviews.

It’s also scored itself a TripAdvisor 2022 Travellers’ Choice Award.

In his video, Walk With Me Tim, visited the restaurant on a not so good day initially just happy to be “in the warm and dry.”

Kicking things off, he was impressed with the “huge” menu but settled on a classic cod, chips, mushy peas and a cup of tea – something he orders in every fish and chip review.

After receiving the fish and chips, he said: “Straight away, I am loving this batter, it’s bubbly it’s literally everywhere, let’s hope it’s nice and crispy as well.”

However, he was initially not very pleased with the “crunch” of the batter, or the lack thereof.

Trying the fish he added: “Wow, the fish just literally fell out of the batter, look at that.

“Wow, the batter melts in your mouth and the fish looks pretty good as well. I’m doing the flake test and it is falling to pieces in my hand.”

“It actually looks like chicken rather than cod, look how chunky that cod is. Look how easy that just comes away though, and that batter is gorgeous.

“The batter is a lovely golden brown, it’s not a beer batter but it does have a really nice taste and it’s not too greasy.”

Commenting on the tartar sauce, he said: “The tata sauce is very nice and thick and this is homemade – that is so creamy and it has that kick of vinegar.”

Moving onto the chips he added: “Now these chips have got a really nice crisp to them and they’re really fluffy on the inside.

“The mushy peas don’t look that mushy, but wow, they are seasoned and taste really good.”

The popular YouTuber was happy with the sea views the restaurant offered as well.

All in all he was very happy with the restaurant adding that it did “live up to the reviews.”

He said: “Well I tell you what, it definitely lives up to the reviews, I paid £14.95 for cod, mushy peas, with chips.

“I’ve never seen fish quite like that, there were no dark bits and parts of it even looked like chicken, I know that’s strange to say but it was very succulent, very juicy not dry at all.

“The batter, although it wasn’t beer batter, it had a really nice taste to it and it really did melt in my mouth.

“If you’ve seen my other reviews you know I’ve never found somewhere that does great mushy peas.

“Well the Magpie Café, although they’re not mushy, they tasted amazing.

“I would definitely give that 10/10.”
