A McDonald's drive-through restaurant could be constructed at the site of a development in Northallerton according to recently submitted plans.

Originally plans for two drive-throughs and a warehouse were submitted back in 2020 on the derelict three-acre site in the market town.

The land, next to the Country Business Park, is between Darlington Road and Thurston Road and is currently undeveloped.

Businessman Simon Bailes submitted the plans for the development, which he says has the potential to create up to 100 full and part-time jobs and will help boost the local economy.

It has now been revealed, after recently submitted plans, that a McDonald's drive-through restaurant could be built on the site in Northallerton.

Plans detail how a new restaurant from the popular chain could be constructed on the site along with parking, outdoor seating and drive-through lanes.

The application argues the proposed development “will ensure a positive contribution to the local community and wider district of Hambleton.”

It adds: “In addition, the scheme will create new local employment opportunities, benefitting the local community especially as the site falls within the ‘EG2 Key Employment Location’ boundary.

“The proposed development will make effective and efficient use of a brownfield site and will provide infrastructure for electric vehicles and cyclists.”

The development argues that it also takes into consideration the traffic generated by the overall development, with the main access being via Thurston Road to the North East of the site.

The application adds: The development demonstrates a well-integrated layout, with consideration for pedestrians and cyclists in the form of crossing points.”

The planning application has not yet been decided and can be viewed and commented on via the Hambleton District Council website.
