Rail services travelling through the North East have been delayed or cancelled after a person was struck by a train on Wednesday (November 2).

Trains between Edinburgh and London have been severely impacted after a person was tragically struck between York and Doncaster at around 2pm.

LNER initially put out several service updates, which included services travelling to London terminating in York, and several services to Edinburgh having to stop, due to an emergency service presence on the line.

Bus replacement bus services were in use for several hours, due to the cancellation of trains.

In a statement, LNER said on social media: “Due to a person being hit by a train between York and Doncaster, all lines are blocked between these stations. Services will be delayed or cancelled.”

In a follow up statement, issued at around 3.15pm, the train provider confirmed that the line was now reopen, but warned of further disruption between London and Edinburgh.

The updated statement read: “Following a person being hit by a train between York and Doncaster, lines have now reopened. Services between London and Scotland remain subject to disruption.”

Our thoughts are with the person’s family at this awful time.
