All but a 'handful' of services will be cancelled on strike days in November, according to Northern.

Action taking place on November 5, 7 and 9  will bring nearly all services across the network to a halt.

Given the impact strikes have on operations, Northern is also advising customers to ‘check before you travel’ on November 6, 8 and 10 when services will not be able to start until much later in the morning.

Northern recommends that customers visit the website for more information on strikes.

Tricia Williams, chief operating officer at Northern, said: “We apologise again for the significant disruption and inconvenience this action by the RMT will cause to our customers."

RMT wants to negotiate a pay offer to cope with the rising cost of living.

Steve Nott, a Furness RMT representative, said when union members went on strike in Barrow in October.

"People are firmly steadfast and positive in their resolve to continue to fight for their jobs, terms and conditions and a pay rise," he said at the time.

"We hope as a union that eventually the government will step aside and let the operators and network rail negotiate freely with our officials."
