A young Sunderland-based charity fundraiser has been given an unforgettable experience, after taking a ride with Top Gear's legendary 'The Stig'.

Charlie McEvoy from Sunderland was given One Big Thank You on last night's The One Show after his continued efforts to raise money for charity.

In a special surprise, the young fundraiser got to take a ride with stars of Top Gear, Chris Harris and The Stig as they raced around the Dunsfold race track.

McEvoy went to the track thinking he got the chance to see how the car show was filmed, as he stood on the side tracks beside his parents.

But was quickly surprised as the presenter of the show Chris Harris asked if McEvoy wanted to take a ride in the sports car himself.

After Harris got the chance to show off the car's potential, McEvoy got another surprise, as none other than the elusive Stig took over driving and showed the young driver just how fast the car could go.

The Stigs driving left a big smile on the young fundraiser's face as he watched family and famous faces thank him for all his hard work towards charity.

McEvoy started raising money for charity after his mum and brother were diagnosed with cancer and his nan who he sadly lost to cancer.

But from his hard work including swimathons and litter picking, McEvoy has raised thousands for charity, helping many other families.

Sharing the moment on Twitter, The One Show wrote: "A #OneBigThankYou surprise with @HarrisMonkey and @BBC_TopGear's The Stig is about to take place for Charlie, who has been going the extra mile for his community.

"Thank you for all you do, Charlie!"
