A North East restaurant has revealed a ‘unique’ idea of paying the tab for food and drinks after revealing that they now take prime energy drink as a form of payment.

Over the last few months, Prime hydration drinks have taken the UK by storm – with teenagers and parents alike storming into their local ASDA stores to try and get their hands on the coveted drinks.

Created and marketed by YouTube stars Logan Paul and KSI, scenes up and down the country of teenagers dashing into their local supermarkets have been filmed and put online, while ASDA have now been forced to limit the drinks to three per person.

As the drink phenomenon grips the country, one pub landlord is looking to capitalise and cash in on the move by saying that he accepts prime hydration as a form of people paying the tab.

Instead of taking cash or card, you can now pay for your pint with a bottle of Prime energy drink at The George Pub and Grill, which has restaurants located in Stockton-on-Tees, Middlesbrough and Redcar, and are all owned by food blogger Craig Harker.

In a bizarre turn of events which has seen us transported almost back in time to the days of trading goods, you can now pay for your food and drink with an unopened bottle of Prime energy drink.

While the drink was initially sold exclusively at ASDA at the price of £1.50, some bottles are now being sold for as much as £30 on sites such as eBay and people have been spotted selling bottles on social media for a heavily inflated price.

Craig Harker, a father-of-three who owns and runs the blog 'Dad Loves Food' and lives in Stockton-on-Tees, has reflected on the whole craze around the drink as being 'absolutely nuts'.

"It's easier to get your hands on gold and diamonds than Prime at the minute. [...] I haven't seen a craze like this probably since the PlayStation came out," he has said.

"I can understand why ASDA put the three bottles maximum on it because kids are going crazy for it - it's obviously hit home with them because they're rushing to the aisles like Usain Bolt and clearing them in no time."

Despite the pub owner now taking prime as payment, he has also managed to get his hands on some of the sought-after bottles and is planning to do competition giveaways.

He has also mocked up a poster on the George Pub and Grill page that sees him photoshopped into a picture with Logan Paul and KSI.

The ‘stunt’ from Mr Harker has already garnered thousands of reactions online and has been picked up by national news outlets.
