A third man has admitted dangerous driving which ended in the death of a much-loved grandmother.

Syed Hassan has admitted his involvement in a multi-vehicle crash, which resulted in the death of Margaret Murray on March 30, 2021, on the A689, near Greatham, outside of Hartlepool.

The 75-year-old “much-loved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law and friend”, of Easington, was a passenger in one of four vehicles involved in the crash.

On Wednesday, 21-year-old Kieran Clement, of Winterburn Place, Newton Aycliffe, admitted causing the death of Mrs Murray by driving an Audi dangerously on the A689 eastbound.

And 22-year-old Keaton Cox, of The Barracks, Bolckow Street, Eston, pleaded guilty to driving a Black VW Golf dangerously on the same road.

Teesside Crown Court heard how the defendants were not known to each other but their paths crossed when they were driving along the A689 last March.

Hassan, of Blackhills Road, Horden, spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and enter his guilty plea during Thursday's hearing.

Judge Howard Crowson said: “They all were driving rather quickly and that probably encouraged each other to drive rather quickly but not racing in the true sense.”

Clement and Cox will be sentenced at Teesside Crown Court on Monday, December 5.

While Hassan will be sentenced a month later on January 13.

All three defendants have been issued with an interim driving ban until sentencing.
