A person has been airlifted to hospital following a crash on the A169 in the North York Moors this morning.

The crash has shut the road both ways south of Goathland for several hours as emergency services including the police, paramedics and air ambulance work at the scene.

Two people were taken to James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough for treatment.

The Yorkshire Ambulance Service confirmed that they were called to the incident by police at 7.44am this morning.

One casualty was airlifted to hospital while another was taken by land ambulance.

A Yorkshire Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We sent three ambulances and the air ambulance to the scene.

"There was one patient airlifted to James Cook Hospital and one patient conveyed by land ambulance to James Cook."

A local diversion was put in place as the A169 was closed both ways from Old Wife's Way to the Goathland turn-off to allow crash scene investigators to carry out enquiries.

North Yorkshire Police described the incident as 'a serious collision' and have been contacted for further details.
