Trains between Newcastle and Edinburgh were cancelled on Tuesday (October 25) evening after a person was tragically struck by a train.

Train firms, including LNER, announced the sad news on social media at around 10.35, while saying that trains would be severely impacted by the awful incident.

The person was struck by the train between Berwick upon Tweed and Edinburgh, with LNER putting out a brief statement that read: “It reads: “It is with great sadness to report that a person has been hit by a train between #BerwickUponTweed and #Edinburgh Services are likely to be delayed or altered at this time in the area.”

A follow up statement was then posted by LNER at around 1am on Wednesday (October 26) to say that services were no longer.

The latest statement reads: “LNERUpdate Disruption caused by a person being hit by a train between #BerwickUponTweed and #Edinburgh has now ended. Services are no longer affected.”

While emergency crews attended the scene, trains were cancelled for three hours.
