A man and woman have been taken to hospital with 'head and body cuts' as police investigate an incident in a North East town this morning (Sunday October 23).

Durham Police said residents would notice an increased presence in the Roseberry Terrace area of Consett, while officers carry out their inquiries into an alleged assault.

Police responded to a reported disturbance at an address on Roseberry Terrace at around 10.30 this morning.

A man and woman in their 40s were taken to hospital for treatment and police said both are in a 'stable condition'.

Sergeant Charlotte Martin, of Consett Neighbourhood Police Team, said: “I would like to reassure the surrounding community that this was an isolated incident and we do not believe there is any further risk posed to residents.”

A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: “We got a call at 10.23 today (October 23) to a private address in the Consett area. There were two patients who had suffered head and body cuts.

“A paramedic crew and clinical team leader attended and took both patients to hospital.”
