AN 18-year-old man who had been out celebrating his birthday had to have a metal plate inserted in his jaw after he was attacked on a nightclub dance floor.

The man, from Witton Gilbert, County Durham, was celebrating with friends when he was punched in the face and fell to the floor in The Loft night club, on North Road, Durham.

Club bouncers helped the man up and shortly afterwards he left for home in a taxi.

However, when he went to hospital the next day he was detained and underwent an operation to insert a metal plate into his damaged jaw.

The police were informed several days later.

PC Dawn Lee said the incident happened in the early hours of Sunday, May 11. She appealed for witnesses to come forward.
