A driver has been taken to hospital after a car left the road and crashed into a tree on the A167 near Durham on Tuesday afternoon (October 18).

The crash has led to the closure of the road between the B6300 Browney Lane and A177 South Road (Cock o' the North Roundabout).

A Durham Police spokesperson said: "Shortly after 3.30pm today, we were called to the A167 near the Honest Lawyer pub after a Nissan car left the road and collided with a tree.

"The driver of the car has been taken to hospital suffering from head injuries."

An AA bulletin said: "Road closed and queueing traffic due to crash on A167 both ways between B6300 Browney Lane and A177 South Road (Cock o' the North Roundabout) -  between Croxdale and Nevilles Cross. Detour in operation."

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We received a call to 999 at 15:28 to a road traffic incident involving one vehicle on White House Burn Hall on A167 in Durham. 

"We sent one emergency ambulance crew and a clinical team leader and took one patient to University Hospital of North Durham for further treatment."
