Fire crews spent more than five hours battling flames at a disused warehouse in Darlington last night.
Police are still waiting for the building to be secured before they carry out investigations, but early indications are that the blaze was started deliberately.
Darlington Fire Service was called to the building at Whessoe Road at 9pm on Monday night. The fire was finally extinguished at 2am this morning.
Officers are still damping the site down to make sure cylinders containing explosive acetylene gas are kept at a safe temperature.
