A FOREST is to be the setting to teach relaxation techniques - Chinese style.

The ancient martial art tai chi is coming to the 900- acre Guisborough Forest over three Sundays next month, June 8, 15 and 22.

The Forestry Commission and Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council have arranged the sessions following the success of a workshop in the east Cleveland forest last year, which was attended by more than 150 people.

Terry Doyle, pictured, a 48-yearold professional tai chi instructor from Middlesbrough, will again be help novices learn how to breathe, move and relax.

Forest ranger Cath Brason said: "We were stunned by the turnout and had all ages of people coming along. Tai chi is all about harmony, so the forest is the perfect backdrop to balance ying and yang. It's just one of the events we are holding as part of our Active Woods health campaign."

Booking is required on 01287- 631132. Two-hour sessions start at 10am and cost £2, or £5 for all three.

Meet at Guisborough Forest and Walkway Visitor Centre, Pinchinthorpe.
