HUNDREDS of people turned out to enjoy the bank holiday weather yesterday and watch the highlight of a three-day community event.
The Barnard Castle Meet is an annual event and one of its regular attractions is the procession, which involves a host of characters parading through the town to the Demesnes where the entertainment continued into the night with live music.
This year's winning floats were: 1st, Montalbo Nursery's pirates; 2nd, Taylor Made Day Care's wild west; 3rd, Montalbo School's Bash Street Kids.
The group causing the most fun was The Witches of Eastwick, featuring Pamela Dixon, Kathleen Butcher and Gillian Harle.
Fancy dress winners: Underfives - 1st, Abigail Tatchley, nurse. Six to 12 years - 1st, Jamie McDougall and James White, cave men, 2nd, Sam Clarke, pirate; 3rd, Katie Fell, medieval queen. 13 to 16 years - 1st, Amy and Megan Fell as Bill and Ben. Adults - 1st, Ada Jones as Minnie Mouse; 2nd, Anthony Dixon as He She; 3rd Joanne Fell, medieval queen.
