A CLIMATE action group has staged an event to try to encourage people to save energy.

The Saving Energy Show was held in Northallerton Town Hall by Northallerton Climate Action (NCA) group recently.

Exhibitors included nine regional suppliers and installers of building insulation, solar panels, heat pumps, wind turbines, timber buildings and low heat loss ventilation systems.

There was also a Low Impact Living stall and a representative from the Energy Saving Trust who advised on domestic energy saving and government grants.

And district and county council representatives were also on hand to advise on recycling and composting.

NCA had its own stall that gave advise on carbon emissions issues. It also organised children's activities.

Outside, four low fuel consumption cars were on display from Toyota, Honda, Volkswagon and Peugeot.

Children got to pedal on the stationary Energy Bike, which was used to illustrate how much mechanical energy is needed to power different types of light bulbs.

Northallerton Climate Action chair, Peter Hale, said: "We were extremely pleased with the attendance of well over 400 visitors. This was by far our largest event since the group was formed early last year and we anticipate repeating it in the future.

"Several exhibitors commented on the high level of genuine interest in their products and how much more productive for them are these local events than the big exhibitions."

The show was made possible by a grant from the York and North Yorkshire Community Foundation, some of which was used for publicity.

Hambleton District Council also helped publicise the event by paying for and printing flyers.
