FIRE fighters today rescued two people stuck in a cavity when their kitchen floor collapsed.
The pair, a man and his daughter, became trapped when they fell through the rotten floor of their ground-floor flat in Ethel Street, Elswick, Newcastle, in the early hours of this morning.
It is understood the man became trapped and called for his daughter to help, and then she also fell through the floor into the four-foot deep cavity.
A special rescue crew from Tyne & Wear Fire Brigade was called at 2.20am and used a short extension ladder to free the pair, who have not been named. The woman was placed on a spinal board as a precaution.
Both people were both taken by ambulance to Newcastle General Hospital. The man is not believed to be seriously injured and his daughter has a suspected broken ankle.
