A BOY of eight was seriously injured when he fell from the rear step of flat back truck.
The youngster had been riding with a friend, also eight, on the wagon after it pulled away from Peddars Way in South Shields.
He fell from the vehicle in nearby Marigold Walk, at around 6.15pm on Friday, suffering serious head injuries.
The driver stopped to let the second boy off and drove off.
He has since been traced by police and is helping with their inquiries.
The injured boy was taken to Newcastle General Hospital with life-threatening head injuries where he has been detained.
Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
