A TEDDY bear is helping youngsters in a primary school learn the importance of attending classes.
Attendance Ted is an initiative by Browney Primary School and Durham County Council's education welfare service to promote attendance.
Education welfare assistant Debbie Morton created Attendance Ted, who visits pupils in the reception class.
Each week, the child with the best attendance record gets to take the bear home for the weekend.
Headteacher Ros Parker said Attendance Ted had a big role to play in getting children to go to their lessons.
She said: "By being proactive, starting at an early age with our youngest children, we can promote the importance of being a regular attendee at school."
