CHILDREN donned homemade costumes to dance around a Maypole yesterday.
Youngsters from Tow Law Millennium Primary School and John Duckett RC Primary School in Tow Law, County Durham, joined in the traditional folk dance around a Maypole.
Parents, children and teachers all visited Tow Law Community Centre to see the primary school children perform dances they had been rehearsing for weeks.
Diane Pearson, from Tow Law Community Partnership, who helped organise the celebrations, said the children found their outfit materials in the surrounding countryside. She said: "We had been running around in fields gathering leaves and flowers.
"They made their costumes completely from scratch."
The dancers also designed hobby horses, headdresses and traditional garlands as part of workshops with artists and community groups.
Mrs Pearson said the event had been a success, and added: "It has been great to see them having such a good time."
