EMERGENCY crews intend to push home the road safety message on Saturday.

A fire appliance will be at every service station along the Great North Road in North Yorkshire between 8am and 4pm.

Crews will be handing out leaflets and giving road safety advice and to reinforce the message a static display in the form of a crashed vehicle will also be present.

They will be supporting Operation Anvil, a road safety initiative led by North Yorkshire Police when officers will be carrying out enforcement on the county's major commuter routes.

Ripon station manager Simon Render said: "We hope that this highly visible joint approach will influence driver behaviour and reduce deaths and injuries on our roads.

"We really value the joint working approach, and hope to conduct more events like this with the help of North Yorkshire Police in the future."
