TWO people have been taken to hospital with suspected neck and spinal injuries after a crash in York.

The incident happened at about 3pm today near to Asda on Jockey Lane, York and involved a Ford Transit van and a Peugeot 307 Cabriolet.

When emergency crews arrived the male driver of the van was out of his vehicle. The male passenger of the Peugeot, who is about 30-years-old, was trapped and had to be freed by firefighters using hydraulic cutting equipment.

The 38-year-old female driver of the car was not trapped but had suspected spinal injuries and was released the same way.

The pair were both taken to York Hospital. The road is still closed in both directions, which is causing long delays.
